Coronavirus Prevention at Home: How to Stay Safe & Avoid Getting Sick

To prevent coronavirus infection at home, it is necessary:

• When you return home, treat your hands or gloves with an alcohol-based antiseptic. Take off your shoes and replace them with your home ones.
• Wipe the front door handles, the light switch in the hallway, and the outside of the disinfectant bottle with disinfectant.
• Remove the mask and gloves and dispose of them. Wash your hands and face thoroughly with soap and water.
• Once a day, do a wet cleaning of the room with detergents and disinfectants (based on cationic surfactants - quaternary ammonium compounds, tertiary amines, polymer derivatives of guanidine). Ventilate the rooms as often as possible.
• After visiting the apartment by non-family members, treat switches, door handles, water taps, and other objects that often come into contact with hands with alcohol-containing disinfectants.

If you are caring for someone with COVID-19 at home

• If there is a sick person at home, the list of objects to be disinfected is expanded. The virus can be found in the air of the room, on surfaces, sanitary equipment, hands, dishes, linen and clothing of the sick person, care items, etc.
• In addition to wet cleaning, periodic treatment of small and polluted surfaces, hands and ventilation, it is necessary to disinfect these objects.
• For disinfection of dishes and linen, you can use thermochemical or thermal disinfection in dishwashers or washing machines (the temperature should be at least 60^oC).
• Care items must be cleaned or sprayed with a disinfectant solution.
• At the end of processing, the cleaning material is immersed in a disinfectant solution, rinsed and stored in a dried form.
• For disinfection, non-toxic disinfectants based on cationic surfactants - quaternary ammonium compounds, tertiary amines, polymer derivatives of guanidine, as well as alcohols and composite agents based on them are used.
