IH students took part in the jubilee XV Nizhny Novgorod International Model UN

From March 30 to April 2, 2023, a delegation of students from the Institute for the Humanities of IvSU took part in the anniversary XV Nizhny Novgorod International Model UN. The delegation consisted of 9 students of the 1st year of "International Relations" program.

The event was held on the basis of NSLU with the support of the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod and the Representative Office of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Nizhny Novgorod. At the opening ceremony, the participants were greeted by guests of honor from the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as foreign students of NSLU. A teleconference was organized with students from Belarus.

This year, the work took place in 5 committees: the Economic and Social Council, the Security Council, the Human Rights Committee, UNESCO and the General Assembly. The range of issues discussed was wide: from the development of the African continent and overcoming the global energy crisis to the problems of ecology and the preservation of cultural heritage during periods of military conflicts.

Despite the first experience of participating in such an event, the students were satisfied with the experience. According to our delegates, there was a professional and calm atmosphere in the committees. Discussing such complex and for real politicians issues, students were able to acquire the skills of public speaking, negotiating with representatives of various UN member states, learned to draw up documents, working both in a team and individually, to defend their point of view.

In their free time, our participants had the opportunity to walk around historical Nizhny Novgorod, enjoy its beautiful views, and communicate with other delegates in an informal setting.
