The Ministry of Education and Science announces the scientific achievement of the employees of the Research Institute of Nanomaterials of the IvSU

Russian scientists have synthesized a phosphor (dye) of the BODIPY class and for the first time obtained its water-soluble form, which, presumably, can be used as a biomarker for highlighting certain cells of the human body without the use of toxic solvents.

The innovative technique will not only increase the solubility of this phosphor in water, but also preserve all its practically important spectral characteristics. Scientists from IvSU are actively studying the properties of this dye. On the basis of our university, postgraduate students of the Institute of Chemistry of Solutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences also undergo training. It was possible to achieve high results thanks to well-coordinated joint work.

The development can be used in the treatment of cancer, the diagnosis of diabetes. There is a possibility of using such compounds in optoelectronics – for example, to increase the efficiency of solar cells.
