On October 22, 2021 the Institute of Humanities of Ivanovo State University held an international conference "Phonetic Rhapsody 2021", timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Doctor of Philology, Professor, Leading Researcher of the Scientific and Educational Center for the Integration of Science and Education of Ivanovo State University, Academician of RANH (full member of the Russian Academy of Natural History) Galina Mikhailovna Vishnevskaya.
Vice-rector for research and project activities Inna Smirnova, Director of the Institute of Humanities Svetlana Manik and Head of the Department of Foreign Philology Ekaterina Shilova addressed the participants with welcoming words. The hero of the day was congratulated by the President of the Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod B. Zhigalev, head of IvSU REC "Laboratory of Human Communicative Behavior" F. Kartashkova, numerous colleagues and students from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Chelyabinsk, Saransk, Murmansk.
The online conference was attended by domestic and foreign scientists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Serbia and Italy. Plenary reports were made by specialists in the field of fundamental, applied and experimental linguistics, phonetic science and methods of teaching foreign languages. Based on the materials of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of scientific papers.
The most significant moment of the conference was the presentation of the book by G.M. Vishnevskaya and T.V. Levina "Phonetic Rhapsody: A Brief Encyclopedic Dictionary of Biographies of Phonetic Scientists", published in September by the Publishing House of the Academy of Natural History (Moscow). It presents brief biographies of domestic and foreign scientists, whose works have made an invaluable contribution to the formation and development of phonetic science.
The biographies of more than 200 outstanding phoneticians reflect achievements that are of great importance for scientific knowledge and understanding of both theoretical and applied aspects of spoken speech on the material of many languages of the world. The book is aimed at young scientists, university students, undergraduates and graduate students who carry out theoretical and experimental research in the field of phonetics of sounding speech.
