English elocution contest

On May, 14 IvSU held the final of the regional English elocution contest in TED-talks style. Foreign Philology Department of IvSU Institute of Humanities and IVELTA (Ivanovo English Language Teachers Association) initiated the event.

Director of the Institute of Humanities Prof. Dr. Svetlana Manik welcomed the participants and guests. She underlined the importance of elocution skills and expressed her confidence that young and talented speakers have something to share with the audience.

The contest was organized in three categories: students of 9-11 school grades; students of 1-3 years of non-linguistic universities; IvSU 1-3 year students studying Foreign Philology and Teaching foreign languages programs.

Participants discussed a variety of things: core life values, distance learning, happiness in mind and body, lessons the pandemic taught us, video games invading real life, travelling, etc.

In the first category (students of 9-11 school grades) the first place was won by Roman Bolshakov, the student of the 9th grade of Ivanovo school №32. Ksenia Lyapina, the student of the 10th grade of Interdom International Educational Centre got the special diploma in “Hot Topic of the Day” nomination.

Berezina Irina, the student of the first year of Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Ivanovo branch) was the winner in the second category. The student of the third year of Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology was awarded with a diploma in “Elaborate Vocabulary” nomination.

The most difficult task was to choose a winner from the students of Foreign Philology Department. After hot debates, Yulia Yakimuk, the third year student, was awarded the first place. Arina Selitscheva, a first year student, got a special diploma in “Most Confident Presenter” nomination.
