“Hold the roots to grow”: 45 years to IvSU Botanic Garden

Events devoted to the 45^th anniversary of IvSU Botanic garden were carried out from April, 21 to April, 25.

The Round Table devoted to the 45^th anniversary of IvSU Botanic garden was held in Ivanovo State University on April, 21 together with the opening of All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Burning issues of biodiversity protection in especially protected territories”.

Scientists, teachers and students from different Russian regions discussed a wide range of issues concerning the theory and practice of nature protection, research of rare plant types, study and preservation of bio- and landscape diversity, exchange of experience in nature protection activity, training of specialists in the field of bioecology, propaganda and popularization of knowledge about biodiversity preservation. The conference took place in double format: offline in IvSU and online.

The honoured guests of the conference were: Svetlana Potapova (academic secretary of the Council of Russsian botanic gardens), Olga Kravchenko (head of Department of natural resources and ecology of Ivanovo region), Elena Sotnikova (chairperson of Ecology Committee of Ivanovo administration), Aleksandr Kurguzov (deputy head of Committee for forestry of Ivanovo region), Svetlana Semushkina (head of the Council of Ivanovo branch “All-Russia Society of Nature P+rotection”), Natalia Pavlova (director of Ivanovo culture and recreation park named after 1905-year Revolution), Anastasia Medvedeva (specialist of Department for human-rights ombudsman maintenance in Ivanovo region) and others.

On April, 22 festive events continued on the base of IvSU Botanic garden. Conference participants took part in the opening of the commemorative plaque devoted to A.K. Malinovsky – a talented scientist, selectionist, one of the first Ivanovo landscapers.

Doors Open Days took place on April, 24-25 on the territory of IvSU Botanic garden. One-hour walks along eco-routes demonstrating unique plants and commented by specialists were organized for city residents and guests.

IvSU Botanic garden is a special place fulfilled with joyful creative work, life and light. Guests of the conference noted that it is known not only in Russia but in CIS countries as well. Officers of Botanic garden had taken active part in creation of seven brochures for the Red Book of Ivanovo region. The Garden is the place for scientific studies and versatile and educative activity. Addressing to the participants, IvSU rector Alexey Malygin underlined that “we ought to keep everything we have here and make the Garden interesting for students of our universities and guests”.
