"Olympic Days" of chemists at IvSU

"Olympic Days" of chemists at IvSU

On January 19 and 20, Ivanovo State University became the venue for the regional stage of the All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad of School Students. Both the theoretical and experimental rounds were held in full-time format and brought together 40 high school students in Ivanovo and Ivanovo Oblast.

At a time when children were solving complex chemistry tasks, their teachers participated in the IX Regional Seminar "Current Issues of Teaching Chemistry in Modern Schools". The seminar was opened by the Rector of IvSU A. Malygin. He told the teachers about the changes in the structure of the University, about the prospects for the development of the material base of the University, and expressed gratitude to the teachers for their dedicated work in preparing students-"olympians" in a difficult time of the pandemic. In his speech, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and International Cooperation N. Sorokin outlined the vectors of interaction between IvSU and educational institutions in our region. Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee S. Yezerskaya told the teachers about the features of the 2021 admission campaign, paying special attention to the educational programs of the chemical profile, which are implemented by the Institute of Mathematics, Information Technology and Natural Sciences.

The audience was very interested in the popular science lecture of the senior lecturer of the Department of Biology A. Sivukhin "Viruses: Truth and Fiction". Alexey Sivukhin discussed the latest achievements in the study of coronavirus, described the mechanisms of action of antiviral vaccines, and answered numerous questions from teachers. Associate Professor of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Chemistry T. Volkova discussed with teachers the transformation of professional stereotypes of "natural science" teachers based on the results of a survey of teachers in December 2020.

Seminar leader Professor T. Kustova gave guidelines for solving tasks of a high level of sophistication, and also discussed with the chemistry teachers the demo version of the Unified State Exam in Chemistry 2022. After receiving the certificates of the participants of the seminar, the teachers expressed great gratitude to the organizers for the high level of reports and received methodological assistance in teaching chemistry.
