The most important thing about the new student campus!

In 2027, a unique campus will open its doors for Ivanovo students, which will be built on the territory of the former BIM. The abandoned manufactory with a rich history will be transformed into a modern multifunctional educational space that will unite six Ivanovo universities: IvSU, IvSMA, ISACU, ISPU, IvSPU, ISCTU – and two research institutes: the Institute of Chemistry of Solutions named after A.G. Krestov and Institute of Maternal and Childhood named after V.N. Gorodkov.

The creation of an innovative educational environment (campuses) is the task of our President. According to plans, by 2030, 25 high-tech campuses will appear on the map of the country, which should help improve the quality of Russian education in general and the socio-economic development of the region where the campus operates. The Ivanovo region entered the second wave of winners of the competitive selection for the construction of campuses – this is recognition of the high level of higher education in our region!

The idea and the project itself were supported by the head of the region, Stanislav Voskresensky, who is involved in the transformation and development of the urban environment. With the support of the Governor, the scientific and educational consortium of universities and scientific institutes "Ivanovo" was first created, which was involved in the substantive study of the application for the creation of the campus.

The future campus is a kind of “city within a city”, revealing the potential of Ivanovo universities in a new way. He, no doubt, will become an object of attraction not only for students, but for residents and guests of our region. The new scientific and educational space will be designed for life, study, and science.

According to the passport of the Big Ivanovo Manufactory project, the total area will be more than 44,000 square meters, 2,500 students and teachers will be able to live on the campus. A comfortable hostel, libraries, classrooms will function there, as well as a whole complex with research centers and laboratories, modern equipment and co-working, which will allow the commercialization of scientific ideas. The new space accumulates priority areas for the region, the development of which will be supported by scientific centers: the center for generative design, the center for reverse engineering, the center for industrial design, the laboratory for urban studies of small towns, and the center for biosimilar functional materials.

According to the project roadmap, work is planned for 2023-2024 to design the quarter and modernize engineering communications, and construction will begin in 2025. The phased introduction of laboratories and centers is expected, and already in 2027 the campus will receive the first students in classrooms.

Not only Ivanovo students will be able to live on the campus, but also foreign citizens, students from other Russian cities who will come to us for training or scientific internships. For example, a student is engaged in scientific developments in the field of reverse engineering – and understands that only here, in Ivanovo, he will be able to gain competencies in this direction, he comes for an internship. While he is studying, he lives in a campus dormitory. Or, for example, a student from Novosibirsk is engaged in research of small towns – and comes to us to study for a semester or for a year, works in this direction with our professors, lives here. Then he goes back to his university, and this academic year is credited to him. Hostels will also be able to receive tourists and citizens who come for sightseeing purposes.

For the city, this is the revival and transformation of a cultural heritage site. In its very center there will be a well-arranged place according to modern standards, accessible to every inhabitant. The campus, no doubt, will increase the attractiveness of our region for young people to work and live here, and scientific developments will be in demand by the real sector of the economy.
