Career guidance workshop “Knowledge floors” for schoolchildren

On January 22, 2022, IvSU (re)launched the Knowledge Floors project, a career guidance workshop for “schoolchildren and their parents”. The event took place in the 6th educational building of IvSU. The project gives an idea about university areas of training through solving entertaining problems from various fields of knowledge. For the first time, the project took place in “pre-pandemic” 2019 and gathered together 50 future applicants from the city and the region.

This year, the Floors were launched in a university-wide format. More than 100 people joined the event (80 students in grades 9-11 and about 20 parents). The intellectual holiday was opened by vice-rector for social development and international affairs Nikita D. Sorokin and the supervisor of the Floors associate professor of the department of philosophy Merine A. Melikyan.

Schoolchildren visited 15 stations on 8 floors: Where is the logic?”, “Black boxes”, “What is in the bottle?”, “Launch me!”, “What kind of bird?”, “My fingerprinting)”, “I – director!?”, “Man is a mystery!”, “Advertising rollerball”, “What? Where? When?”, “Me / not-me”, “Guess the hero!”, “Smart linguistics”, “What about what?” and sports mini-Olympiad. At this time parents were able to ask their questions to the university administration and the admissions committee in the unofficial format. By the way, parents were still able to "run" through some stations, check and compare their knowledge and competencies with those that are formed by IvSU.

Then 8 floors with 15 stations were waiting for the schoolchildren: “Parents at this time (and the passage of the stations takes more than 2 hours) were able to ask their questions to the university administration and the admissions committee in the format of a “meeting without ties”. By the way, parents were still able to "run" through some stations, check and compare their knowledge and competencies with those that are formed by IvSU.

All participants of the workshop received certificates, adding 1 point to the sum of their state exam points which they will be able to use applying to any IvSU educational program in the current year. The winners of the stage got 3 points each.

Before the end of the academic year, we will organize 2 more university-wide and three specialized trips through the floors of knowledge for our applicants. We are waiting for new and “experienced” teams and remind you that the winning team of the season (each of its participants) receives +5 to the sum of state exam points when entering IvSU this calendar year.
